Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is unique and remarkable as the elusive creature PJ has occasionally glimpsed in the fields, the Drumshanbo Jackalope.

Through the years PJ Rigney has taken many journeys from the familiar into terra incognita. He created The Shed Distillery of PJ Ridney, with its medieval copper pot stills, and began a quest to fuse oriental botanicals with the local Irish ones. As it turned out, they got on very well indeed.

Aroma: Light and citrus-forward. The more delicate handling of the citrus ingredients is quite evident here. Fresh lemon zest, highlighting a subtle herbaceous, sagey juniper with the slightest hint of green tea and meadowsweet.

Taste: Citrus once again dominates. This time its grapefruit. Juniper and green tea are present mid-palate: the juniper herbaceous and bright, the green tea calling to mind Jasmine green tea, as you might get before sushi at a Japanese restaurant.

Towards the end though, it turns sweet and spicy/herbal. Anise and cardamom and subtly and expertly played in here. Meadowsweet, especially late and towards the finish lends its a honeyed, vanilla-like naunce.

Finish: Mildly warming and with a pleasant heat.
